Little details that aren’t missed in quality construction!

As the architect  we spec many details in the construction documents.  Thank you Paddy for pointing out an excellent example of the use of sill tape as Illinois will be updating from the 2009 IECC energy codes to the latest published 2012 edition.

“Over the last 20-30 years sealing windows properly against air and water has become very important for energy costs and to protect against  rot. Gerry's framing crew did an excellent job on taping Tyvek seams and also taping the windows and doors properly. My compliments to his crew - it is extremely helpful to the industry and most importantly - our customers!” - Paddy Noone, Shillings Lumber

Michael Buss Architects, Ltd. continually reviews the codes and attends continuing education seminars.  Contact Michael Buss Architects, Ltd. today for information on how these standards and codes may affect design and construction your next project.

What are the different styles of homes?

Here is the question. What are the different styles of homes?

Are all Victorians in the Queen Anne style (painted ladies)?
No, sometimes it is easier to view Victorians as high style (lots of detail)
or low style or low style (simple details)?

Bungalows, now what is a bungalow - A Chicago bungalow versus a California bungalow?

Colonials this style brings many different images to mind.

Every client I meet views the style of these buildings differently. So until a common vernacular is established, and I have an understanding of what they are thinking I can’t really begin mbussarchitects.com

Need A Change- How about a Bridge?

Testimonial Childrens Dentistry Group

I would like to comment on the excellent work done by Robert Schmidt who is a member of your team. He did an excellent job from our first meeting to the final Inspection for occupancy. Your firm was recommended to me by KSW Construction, who were the general contractors for the build out. Robert worked Extremely well with Holt Dental on layout and design, general contractor and subs, as well as Kitty Farentella (Interior Design) for this Pediatric Dental office.
All designs, details and time targets were met without any problems.
I would highly recommend Robert and your firm Michael Buss Architects, Ltd without reservation.
If you go to our website http://www.childrensdentistrygroup.com/ there are many photos of the office and office tour in the site that will demonstrate the beauty of your design.

Testimonial from Rich and Judy Scheck, Oak Brook

Michael,

Judy and I would like to sincerely thank you and your staff at Michael Buss Architects, Ltd, for doing an outstanding job designing our home and watching over the construction for our best interests.  As you know, I have been in the construction industry for over 47 years and I feel that I am a pretty good judge of talent in my business and you are extremely good at what you do.  Your creativity was very apparent to Judy and me from the first time we met with you and now that we approach the completion of our home we can see what you saw in the beginning.   We love our home and you made our dreams come true.  Your attention to detail shows throughout the whole house, interior and exterior.  We would wholeheartedly encourage you to have any future clients contact us so that we could explain the outstanding job you did for us.  You are truly an idea person that is very gifted and we thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Rich and Judy Scheck

Testimonial Maggy and John, Downers Grove, Il

...His style of exploring what we wanted, what our needs were, and what ideas we had was impressive. As we talked he sketched out our ideas, asked more questions……

His firm does not just draw plans for houses; they bring you through a process, a process of designing your dream home. It is a gift that Michael has; to listen, understand, and interpret what his clients want. His work is outstanding.

That's the fun part...

Without a party, without breaking any champaign bottles I have flipped the switch for my blog. This is how so many events have started in my life. A simple idea, nothing more. A simple idea and the desire to follow it. See where it goes. I design for a living, homes mostly, but also offices, furniture, and whatever else I can get my hands into. I love what I do. My intent is to introduce you to my work. To show you what goes into the design of a home. The clients are real, the projects are real, the decisions they make are real. Some solutions will be liked, some won’t. Lets see where it goes. As Jimmy has told me many a late night, “some navigators aren’t really sure where they are, and when they get there they're still not sure.” That’s the fun part, not knowing.
